Thesis: Avian Destinations

Date: Year Four (Fall and Winter)

Supervisor: Cristina Verissimo

Advisor: Talbot Sweetapple

Avian Destinations was the first of six typologies developed in my thesis. Sited in the Hermaness Nature Reserve on the northern island of Unst this typology develops three architectural interventions associated with three distinct sub-typologies of bird species found in the park. Each intervention applies selective observational elements in varying degrees to best enhance the viewer’s experience of the sub-typology. Some interventions require more visual separation of the bird species from the viewer (Field Pavilion) while others (Cliff and Hill Pavilions) provide more refuge from the elements for the participant.
